Kappa Psi

David Dent

Hello Brothers. My name is David Dent and I am a 2019 initiate of the Theta Chapter at Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Pharmacy. I’m honored to be the Webmaster for Kappa Psi Atlantic Province this year. I am in my second year of school and still unsure of which Pharmacy specialty I want to move into. I’ve narrowed it down to either hospital administration, psychiatric pharmacy, ambulatory care, or education. My interests are broad, but my plan right now is to pursue a PGY1 after I graduate.

My “why Kappa Psi” started with already being close friends with many of the brothers who joined a year ahead of me. When I heard they joined a fraternity, I was a little hesitant to follow suite. I didn’t join a fraternity as an undergrad at the University of Virginia because, for me, the time and the money I needed to invest far outweighed the benefits. But my friends explained Kappa Psi was different. It’s a professional fraternity. They said it was one of the best decisions of their grad school careers, helping them develop both professionally, and personally. After being initiated into Kappa Psi I don't regret my decision. No matter how tough school or life gets, I know I am fully supported by my Brothers. Kappa Psi has given me a second family, allowed me to connect with people I wouldn’t have otherwise, build my professional skills and helped me feel comfortable taking on new leadership roles. I’m excited to use this position to show to the world all of the amazing things our Chapters are doing to advance the Pharmacy profession by exemplifying our core values of fellowship, industry, sobriety, and high ideals. I wouldn’t be doing my job if I didn’t encourage every brother to follow the Atlantic Province Instagram page (@kappa.psi.atlantic) so you can stay connected with everything we have planned for this year.

Outside of Kappa Psi, I am passionate about advocating for the profession. I get to do this through my position as president of the Student Pharmacist Policy and Advocacy Association (SPPAA) at VCU. I’m even more passionate about making pharmacy fun to learn about, ending the stigma surrounding mental health, and helping others pursue the things that make them happy, Pharmacy-related or not. I get to do all this through my Pharmacy Podcast, OVERxDOSE, and instagram @overx.dose.

Besides creating educational Pharmacy content on social media, some other fun facts about me are, I’m one of triplets, I was born and raised in Las Vegas (that’s two of us on the 2020 exec board from there!), I’ve been skateboarding since I was 10 years old, I snowboard, and I am a decent Apex Legends player. I’ve got a lot of ideas for revamping the website and Instagram this year, and building a consistent brand for Kappa Psi Atlantic Province. I’m really excited to make it something every Brother can be proud of.

Proud to be your Brother,

David Alexander Dent
